Girl killed herself after autism diagnosis

thetimes.co.uk - A schoolgirl who hanged herself weeks after earning a string of A-stars in her GCSEs was struggling to cope with a diagnosis of mild autism, an inquest has been told.

Elspeth McKendrick, 16, of Bury, Greater Manchester, was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome in 2012.

The school prefect was found hanged in her bedroom last August. She had left a note that apologised to her family and described her anguish at not being able to open up to her friends.
