It came 111th in an index of 133 countries on this measure because almost 25 per cent of the population is obese, compared with 15.6 per cent in France, 17.2 per cent in Italy and 21.3 per cent in Germany.
People in Britain are also more likely to die from infectious diseases than in many other countries, the Social Progress Index said.
