The Kuwaiti-born cartoonist on trial for creating all-Islamic super-heroes

thetimes.co.uk - Naif Al-Mutawa’s comic book promotes tolerance and has been praised by Barack Obama - but he has received death threats

Two weeks ago Naif Al-Mutawa was in a courtroom in Kuwait, charged with blasphemy. It was the first day of a trial that could see him face a fine or a prison sentence. Nevertheless, he sounds remarkably chipper.

“It went fine,” he says on the phone from Kuwait. “The guy who is suing me ranted and raged like a cartoon character. It was quite funny. I had a smirk on my face. I was like: ‘No wonder this guy is going after cartoons: he belongs in their world’.”
