Nuclear Needs

thetimes.co.uk - Wedged amid the personal invective launched yesterday by Michael Fallon, the defence secretary, against Ed Miliband was a valid point about policy. Mr Fallon maintained that the Labour leader stood ready to renounce Britain’s independent nuclear deterrent if it helped him form a government with minority parties. There is in fact no reason to doubt Labour’s declared commitment to the submarine-launched Trident missile system. Yet it bears stressing that it would be negligent and reckless for any government to imagine that this country’s independent deterrent is dispensable.
