Hardline Marxist insurgents to rock Turkish elections

thetimes.co.uk - Only a few miles from central Istanbul’s tourist attractions lies Gazi, a working-class district on the European side of the Bosphorus strait where the police have to drive through the streets in convoys of armoured vehicles.

Here is the powerbase of the DHKP-C, the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party Front, a left-wing militant group with ties to the Syrian regime. It launched a deadly attack at a central courthouse last week. Mehmet Selim Kiraz, a state prosecutor, was taken hostage at gunpoint, and was killed during a shootout between his abductors and police.
