Pet dog killed by owners’ 30-a-day smoking habit

thetimes.co.uk - Gabriella Swerling

A couple’s 30-a-day cigarette habit caused their pet dog to contract terminal lung cancer from passive smoking.

Heather Goddard, 61, and her husband Keith, 67, from Seaton Delaval in Northumberland, were devastated when Clover, a seemingly healthy eight-year-old crossbreed they had adopted as a puppy, collapsed during a walk. She had to be carried to their car and was put down by vets.

An x-ray showed that Clover had dark shadows on her lungs and that smoking had caused her death.
