Letter of Recommendation: Gel Manicures

nytimes.com - I wore less makeup when I was a makeup artist than at any other time in my life. In beauty school, they asked us to arrive wearing none at all, so that we could practice the day’s lessons on one another’s faces. Nail polish was frowned upon, too, because it flaked and chipped; the odds that clients would inhale runaway polish were high. Later, when I found work, the hassle of making early-morning call times in the strangest locations (4 a.m. on a small Ontario farm, 6 a.m. at an abandoned church in the heart of downtown Toronto) made my own appearance seem inconsequential.
